I have been on a spicy cocktail kick for a while now and this one is my favorite so far! I have always loved strawberries and now that berry season is in full swing, I decided to combine two of my favorites to make this sweet and spicy cocktail you won’t be able to put down.
You’ll need 3 cocktail-making tools for this drink: a cocktail shaker, a jigger for measuring, and a muddler. If you have it, a cocktail strainer would work better than the strainer top that comes with a shaker, but it’s do-able with just the shaker.
The first thing you want to do is combine the lime juice, fresh strawberries, and jalapeno slices in the bottom of the cocktail shaker. Use the muddler to crush the ingredients and break them down so the flavor releases into the liquid.
Then I add the white rum, simple syrup, ice and shake away! I like to use the large ice cube molds for cocktails because this one is concentrated so it’s more of a sipping cocktail and you don’t want the ice to melt and make it watery.
This recipe calls for 1/2 oz. of simple syrup for each cocktail. Simple Syrup is just equal parts water and sugar, boiled for a few minutes to dissolve the sugar, and cooled down. For mine, I like to use Sugar in the Raw turbinado sugar, but regular granulated sugar is perfectly fine.
My husband prefers this cocktail with a little club soda poured on top but I like it just as it is! Feel free to try it both ways and tell me which one you like best!
